Saint Ethelbert was the first Christian King of England. He married a Frankish wife (Bertha) who introduced Christianity. He didn’t convert, himself, though until St. Augustine of Canterbury came to visit and inspired him to get baptized. He converted pagan shrines into churches, but he did not force any of his subjects into Christianity against their wills.
Saint Walburga left her home in England to go work with St. Boniface in Germany. One of the stories about her that I found most intriguing was that she was getting ready to go to her room one night and asked a monk to light the candles for her. He refused. When her sisters came to go with her to dinner, they found that the passageway was lit by a divine light that stayed all the way until morning. She’s also known for healing miracles. A rock near where she is buried is supposed to excrete some kind of moisture with special healing powers.
